Serotiny

Privacy Policy

Serotiny, Inc. (“Serotiny”) operates Serotiny.bio and a software application called Pinecone (“Software”), and may operate other websites. It is Serotiny’s policy to respect your privacy regarding any information we may collect while operating our websites and software.

1. Website Visitors and Software Users

Like most website operators, Serotiny collects non-personally-identifying information of the sort that web browsers and servers typically make available, such as the browser type, language preference, referring site, and the date and time of each visitor request. Serotiny’s purpose in collecting non-personally identifying information is to better understand how Serotiny’s visitors use its website and Software. From time to time, Serotiny may release non-personally-identifying information in the aggregate, e.g., by publishing a report on trends in the usage of its website and Software.

Serotiny also collects potentially personally-identifying information like Internet Protocol (IP) addresses for logged in users and for users leaving comments on Serotiny.bio blogs/sites. Serotiny only discloses logged in user and commenter IP addresses under the same circumstances that it uses and discloses personally-identifying information as described below, except that commenter IP addresses are visible and disclosed to the administrators of the blog/site where the comment was left.

2. Gathering of Personally-Identifying Information

2.1 Certain visitors to Serotiny’s websites and users of its Software choose to interact with Serotiny in ways that require Serotiny to gather personally-identifying information. The amount and type of information that Serotiny gathers depends on the nature of the interaction. For example, we ask visitors who sign up at Serotiny.bio or in the Software to provide a username and email address. Those who engage in transactions with Serotiny are asked to provide additional information, including as necessary the personal and financial information required to process those transactions. In each case, Serotiny collects such information only insofar as is necessary or appropriate to fulfill the purpose of the visitor’s interaction with Serotiny. Serotiny does not disclose personally-identifying information other than as described below. And visitors or users can always refuse to supply personally-identifying information, with the caveat that it may prevent them from engaging in certain website-related activities.

2.2 Furthermore, upon placing an order, Serotiny will be entitled (but not obliged) to record the gene sequence designed and ordered by you, for use in the production of synthesized genes designed and order by other users of the Serotiny System, whether such other designs are the same as, or share certain similarities with, the design made by you. For clarification, Serotiny will not, without your permission, publicly display your design or other work products or otherwise share them with (or allow them to be accessed by) other users, but where Serotiny detects a design that has been made independently by another user and which shares certain patterns or features with your design, it may refer to your design for purposes of streamlining the production of such similar design. Likewise, in the production of your design, Serotiny may draw on information previously collated from designs of other users who had placed orders for gene sequences containing similarities to yours.

3. Aggregated Statistics

Serotiny may collect statistics about the usage or behavior of visitors to its websites. Serotiny may display this information publicly or provide it to others. However, Serotiny does not disclose personally-identifying information other than as described below.

4. Protection of Certain Personally-Identifying Information

Some of those employees, contractors and affiliated organizations may be located outside of your home country; by using Serotiny’s websites and software, you consent to the transfer of such information to them. Serotiny will not rent or sell potentially personally-identifying and personally-identifying information to anyone.

4.2 Other than to its employees, contractors and affiliated organizations, as described above, Serotiny discloses potentially personally-identifying and personally-identifying information only in response to a subpoena, court order or other governmental request, or when Serotiny believes in good faith that disclosure is reasonably necessary to protect the property or rights of Serotiny, third parties or the public at large. If you send us a request (for example via email or via one of our feedback mechanisms), we reserve the right to publish it in order to help us clarify or respond to your request or to help us support other users. Serotiny takes all measures reasonably necessary to protect against the unauthorized access, use, alteration or destruction of potentially personally-identifying and personally-identifying information.
